Short summary of the chapter:
The story begins with the RishiJaratkaru, who was named so because his body was initially huge and he reduced it through severe ascetic penances.
Vasuki, the king of snakes, wanted to bestow his sister upon Jaratkaru, but the Rishi was focused on his asceticism and did not seek a wife. Meanwhile, King Parikshit, an expert hunter, chased a deer into the forest and encountered a Muni drinking milk in a cow-pen.
