          Did you always want to be a stuntman, Ian?

          I did – like any kid I’d watch a Tarzan or cowboy film on a Saturday and go and practise outside. I was told at school that there was no such job as a stuntman, so I joined the army.

          After that I went to the US for a while and one day I got thinking about a friend back in the UK who was a stunt co-ordinator. I gave him a call and got a job.

          If you are in the UK, you need to join the Stunt Register and then you go through three phases.

          I’m doing that now on the set of a TV production of Beowulf in England. It’s full-on. Every day I’ll look at what action we have to prepare for, see who needs to be booked in, plan fights, do budgets
